Eyal Bassan is a post-doctoral fellow at the School of Cultural Studies and the Kipp Center for Hebrew Literature and Culture. He was awarded the Dean’s Distinction Post-Doctoral Fellowship for 2019-20 in the Lester and Sally Entin Faculty of Humanities. He received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2017. His dissertation, Gestures of Undoing: The Desire for the Neutral in Modern Hebrew Literature, traces throughout the history of this literature a persistent though unavowed cultural inclination toward non-action, unproductivity, and the unfulfillment of potentials. He recently co-edited (with Chen Edelsburg) a special issue of Ot: A Journal of Literary Criticism and Theory, dedicated to contemporary theories of reading, titled “The Way We Read, Here and Now.” His book Gnessin Style is forthcoming in Hebrew with Mossad Bialik Press.
